Opera House Guild Elects New Officers

Twelve board members of the Raintree Opera House Guild met Feb. 7 for their monthly meeting at the Byrket Center Chamber of Commerce rooms, where the following officers were elected for the coming year:  Dick Willis, president; Mary Sinnock, vice president; Junaita Rucker, secretary, and Helen Schatzlein, treasurer.

Standing committees were elected as follows:  George Hall and Juanita Rucker, grants; Dick Willis, art; Mary Sinnock, Sally Janulis and Kate hall, publicity; Ruth Clemens, membership; Janet Bush, Jo Carter and Leland Atkinson, fund raising; Vicki Willis, building supervision; Kate Hall, restoration; Carolyn Peyton, research; Tom Saunders, operation and equipment; Steve Lochmueller, architect, contractors and board; Mark Stamper and Charles Brown, legal advisors.

The Guyer Opera House has applied for registration on the National Register and hopes to be listed in the near future.  Vickie Willis announced some additional attractions for those going on the New York Theater Tour from April 1-8.  Instead of a Wednesday matinee, one may choose to go to the opening game at Yankee Stadium or to the Metropolitan Opera.

During discussion of restoration plans, it was emphasized that the main lobby of the Opera House may be used as a community center or meeting and party room for Henry County organizations.

Next meeting will be March 7 with the location to be announced.
