Editorial Opinion – Don’t Pass Up Experience of Theater in Park

Summer Theater in the Park offers a most unique experience for the public.  When the Raintree County Opera House Guild, Inc., announced plans for restoration of the Guyer Opera House in Lewisville , the 1977 summer plays had been planned to be held at that location.  With restoration not progressing as quickly as had been hoped, the summer theater moved to the Shelter House in Memorial Park.  This location offers local residents an opportunity perhaps never available before.  The setting is informal, the evening breezes delightful and most important of all—the entertainment is unusually rich.

The five plays which are being presented in an alternating repertory through August 13th offer three musicals and two comedy shows.  Many of the performers have been seen in other local productions in past years and are well-known by the community.  Others are new on the scene and are most welcome.  The acting and direction of the lays is of uniformly high quality.

The civic theater movement is having a high degree of growth all over the country but not everywhere is there the excellence of performers which we can experience right here at Memorial Park.

Moreover, the Raintree County Opera House Guild, Inc., has been formed as a non-profit organization in order to acquire, restore and operate the vintage gaslight theater in Lewisville .  The goal is to produce plays, operettas, dances, children’s theater, lectures, film festivals, summer stock, and also to house meetings, style shows, and parties for clubs and organizations.

The Guyer Opera House is an opportunity that the public should not overlook.  The public will have only 2 more weeks to spend a delightful evening in the Memorial Park Shelter House and forget troubles for a couple of hours.  The schedule of the performance is arranged so that all five shows can still be seen.  This is indeed a unique opportunity for area residents.  It deserves the financial backing and the interest of every citizen.
